TOUR FOR ZINO DAVIDOFF 100 ANNIVERSARY PREMIUM CIGAR
davidoff.htm The premium cigar brand Davidoff is going on the road with the "Thank you Zino" tour to celebrate the 100th birthday of the company's late founder, Zino Davidoff. The tour, which kicked off in Munich, Germany, on March 15, will travel through Germany and Switzerland before moving to the United States on April 11. There will be stops in Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, Missouri, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, California, North Carolina, Connecticut and, finally, Illinois in late June. A local tobacco merchant will sponsor each leg of the trip.
Each of these hosts will celebrate with a dinner coupled with the introduction of the commemorative Davidoff Diademas Finas, the Zino Davidoff 100th Anniversary cigar. The premium cigar is a large perfecto measuring 6 ¾ inches by 50 ring gauge. It is packaged without a cigar band, and Davidoff says it is supposed to recall the Davidoff Diademas created by Zino Davidoff in 1948. Details of the blend are not being released and the premium cigar will be available only at authorized dealers.
Zino Davidoff died in 1994, yet remains one of the best known names in cigar history. Born in 1906 in Kiev, Russia, before fleeing to Geneva with his family, Davidoff was raised around tobacco. His father owned a premium cigar shop in Geneva, which was frequented by Russian exiles, including Vladimir Lenin.
Davidoff devoted his life to premium cigars, traveling through Argentina, Brazil and Cuba as a young man. He eventually propelled Davidoff to the forefront of the European and world markets and inspired the company's motto of living the good life. He is a member of the Cigar Aficionado Hall of Fame.
"The cigar has been my life," he wrote in his 1967 book, The Connoisseur's Book of the Cigar. "I owe it everything: my pleasures and my anguish, the joys of my work as well as the pleasant leisure hours it affords, and, if I have acquired over the course of the years some bit of philosophical perspective, it is to the premium cigar that I am in debt."
